Shenzhen’s Past and Present: From Fishing Village to Innovation Hub – A Cultural Rebirth

Shenzhen, from a historical fishing village to an innovation capital, dances with green brick historical sites and glass curtain walls, interpreting the eternal charm of cultural rebirth!

When the sea breeze carries the pulse of modern cities, the tides of Shenzhen Bay still tell the legend of fishing fires from forty years ago. This city, built with steel glass and code, contains too many cultural genes waiting to be decoded in the folds of history. If you have any questions or would like to customize your trip, please contact us

The Blue Brick Code of Dapeng City

The coastal horn from six hundred years ago echoes through the mottled city walls. The carved window frame of General Ryan's mansion is engraved with the legend of the Qing Dynasty navy's resistance against Japanese pirates. In today's crossroads, the fragrance of tea and fruits is mixed with the sandalwood of cultural and creative shops, and old craftsmen use trendy embroidery to tell the story of "going to Southeast Asia". Standing on the high ground of the Ancient City and looking into the distance, the clouds and mist of Mount Qiniang and the modern buildings in the distance form a montage of time and space interweaving in the lens.

The Reform Thunder of Shekou Cannon Sound

The sound of mountain artillery in 1979 caused waves on the Shekou Peninsula. Nowadays, strolling on the deck of the Minghua ship in the sea world, the neon lights of the container bar are reflected in the waves, and the old sailors still point to that sea area and tell the ice breaking story of "time is money". In the nearby Museum of Reform and Opening up, yellowed stock subscription certificates and chips from the digital age complete a cross century dialogue in display cabinets.

The Poetry of Technology in Shenzhen Bay

Under the streamlined dome of the spring Cocoon Stadium, countless international events have been held, and now it has become a check-in spot for citizens' night runs. On the Star Avenue of the Talent Park, the fingerprints of scientists who broke through technological barriers are engraved, and together with the flowing light show on the "Spring Bamboo Shoots" building across the river, they compose an epic of innovation. The most wonderful thing is riding along the Shenzhen Bay Coastal Corridor in the evening. To the west is the glass curtain wall of the Houhai Financial District, and to the east is the fluttering herons of the mangrove forest, as if shuttling through parallel time and space.

The time capsule of Hakka walled houses

The artillery towers and bunkers in Gankeng Ancient Town guard the secret of Hakka people's southward migration. When experiencing tie dyeing at the "Little Cold Hat Farm", the old craftsman suddenly hummed the tea picking tune that has been sung by their ancestors. In the enclosed house at No. 116 Qidu, the aroma of glutinous rice wine mixed with the bamboo fragrance of Intangible Cultural Heritage hats. Tourists followed to learn how to make Ai Ban, and their fingers were not only stained with green juice, but also with the collective memory of the migrating ethnic group.

The roots of culture are always young

From the salty sea breeze of Dapeng Bay to the wutong murmur of Shennan Avenue; From the rhythm of fishermen weaving nets to the rhythm of makers typing keyboards. The cultural rebirth completed by Shenzhen in forty years is not a separation from the past, but a waltz of history and modernity dancing on the land of Lingnan. When we look up at the sculpture of "Da Peng Spread His Wings" in the civic center, what we see is not only the totem of this city, but also a vivid footnote to the sustainable innovation of Chinese civilization.

Shopping on Nanjing Road in Shanghai was just amazing! It's truly the "First Commercial Street of China", where tradition and modernity blend perfectly. You can find awesome souvenirs and experience the trendy vibes in cool stores. The neon lights at night are just spectacular, shining bright like Times Square in New York. The food here is incredible too. I had a feast for my taste buds. Shanghai, I'll definitely be back!

As a solo traveler from Canada, I was nervous about navigating China alone—but this 11-day tour was PERFECT! From hiking the Great Wall at sunrise (Day 3) to gasping at the Terracotta Army (Day 5), every day delivered ‘pinch-me’ moments. The real showstopper? Zhangjiajie’s Avatar Mountains (Day 7)! Our guide made the stone pillars come alive with stories. Massive thanks for handling all logistics—bullet train tickets, entry passes, car! And the 4-star hotels surprised me.

Our 2-day Zhangjiajie tour was beyond spectacular! As someone who’s visited Beijing and Shanghai for work, this trip revealed China’s wild, magical heart. Day 1 in Zhangjiajie National Forest Park felt like stepping onto Pandora—I’m a huge Avatar fan, and Yuanjiajie’s floating peaks left me breathless. The misty pillars and lush valleys like pure movie magic! Then came Fenghuang Ancient Town, we eat dinner beside the thundering waterfall. It seems Unreal! The night views of stilt houses glowing over the river were straight from a fairy tale. For fellow Avatar lovers and adventure seekers: Don’t miss this bucket-list experience! 10/10 would return.
