The Name "Tiankeng and Difeng" – A 250-Million-Year Journey from Ocean to Land
The names "Tiankeng" and "Difeng" most intuitively describe this karst wonder. Approximately 250 million years ago, this area was a vast ancient ocean, depositing limestone layers thousands of meters thick. Subsequently, the Himalayan orogeny uplifted this seabed, and surface and groundwater continuously dissolved and eroded the carbonate rock, forming caves and underground rivers. When underground river ceilings collapsed, sinkholes were formed; crustal tension and water cutting carved out deep ground fissures. The Wulong Karst is a living museum of this geological evolution.

The Path of Discovery – From Hidden Mountains to World Heritage Site
The modern story of the Wulong Karst is an epic journey from obscurity to global recognition:

Scientific Discovery (1993): Local villagers accidentally discovered the geological wonder of Furong Cave, unveiling the mystery of the Wulong Karst.

Protection and Development (1994-2006): Furong Cave officially opened to the public, followed by the development of the Three Natural Bridges and Longshui Gorge Ground Fissure. The area was successively designated a National Forest Park, National Key Scenic Area, and National Geopark.

Global Glory (2007): As a key component of the "South China Karst," it was inscribed on the UNESCO World Natural Heritage List.

Brand Ascendancy (Present): It became a National AAAAA-level Tourist Attraction and gained international fame as a filming location for major productions like "Curse of the Golden Flower" and "Transformers 4," forging a distinctive path where ecological protection and tourism development complement each other.

Nature's Artistry – The Pinnacle of Karst Landforms

The natural landscape of the Wulong Karst is an eternal dance of water, stone, and time, world-renowned for the "Three Bridges Spanning Two Sinkholes" geological wonder.

Three Natural Bridges – Asia's Largest Natural Bridge Cluster
This is the most awe-inspiring visual icon of Wulong. Three natural stone arch bridges—Tianlong, Qinglong, and Heilong—are arranged longitudinally, spanning the Yangshui River Gorge in parallel, connecting the cliffs on both sides. Each bridge exceeds 150 meters in height, 200 meters in width, and 300 meters in span, presenting a breathtaking and unparalleled spectacle.

Tianlong Bridge: Its towering form resembles a flying dragon in the sky, with caves within the bridge and caves within those caves—a unique wonder.

Qinglong Bridge: The tallest of the three, its arch is entwined with lush vines. The shape of its opening changes with the viewer's perspective. In sunlight, its reflection in the water resembles a giant broadsword, earning it the name "Broadsword Reflection."

Heilong Bridge: Its spacious arch is deep and features four cascading waterfalls from overhanging cliffs. Water plunges from hundred-meter-high rock faces, forming wonders like Pearl Spring, Mist Spring, Triple Cascade Spring, and Thread Spring, painting a poetic waterscape.

Tiankeng – The Earth's Funnel Masterpiece
The Wulong Karst features two major sinkholes, Tianlong and Shenying, forming a unique pattern where "sinkholes are connected by natural bridge openings, and bridges are separated by sinkholes."

Shenying Tiankeng: Passing through Qinglong Bridge and looking up, one can see a rock formation resembling an eagle spreading its wings, seemingly gazing down into the valley. The sinkhole is round like a disc, and walking within it, the sliver of sky above evokes the feeling of a well-frog looking at the sky.

Longshui Gorge Ground Fissure – A Crack Deep Within the Earth
Longshui Gorge is a typical karst gorge, 5 kilometers long with a 2-kilometer tourist route, ranging from 200 to 500 meters in depth. Formed by orogenic movement tens of millions of years ago, it features deep gorges, sheer cliffs, pristine vegetation, cascading waterfalls, and rushing streams with deep pools. Walking along the cliffside plank road, following the underground river, visitors encounter spectacles like the Milky Way Waterfall, Nine Shoals and Eighteen Pools, and the Dragon's Cold Cave. Looking up from the gorge floor, the thousand-meter cliffs, rugged rock faces, and swaying vines and trees create a poetic and picturesque scene.

Furong Cave – An Underground Art Palace
Located on the banks of the Furong River, Furong Cave formed during the Pleistocene epoch within Cambrian and Ordovician carbonate rocks. Renowned for its numerous shafts, complete variety of cave deposits, perfect forms, and geological purity, it is praised by cave experts as "a magnificent underground art palace and a rich museum of cave science." The cave features 29 scenic spots, including the Coral Jasper Pool, Giant Curtain Waterfall, Dogtooth Crystal Flowers, and the King of Stone Flowers.

Human Imprints – The Interweaving of Light, Shadow, and History

Tianfu Official Post – A Tang Dynasty Relay Station Through Time
At the bottom of Tianlong Tiankeng, a courtyard-style Tang Dynasty relay station stands quietly. This is Tianfu Official Post, famous for its appearance in the film "Curse of the Golden Flower." The antique architecture harmoniously blends with its surroundings. Deliberately aged cracks in the walls and bricks, moss-covered tiled roofs sprouting grass, and dark gray wooden pillars and window lattices all speak to the passage of time. Whether viewed from near or far, this expensively constructed post station feels seamlessly integrated with the sinkhole.

Film Location – From Zhang Yimou to Hollywood
The unique charm of the Wulong Karst has made it a popular filming location for numerous productions. Zhang Yimou's "Curse of the Golden Flower" brought Tianfu Official Post into the public eye, while "Transformers 4" showcased this karst wonder to the world. The endorsement by international blockbusters has added a layer of modern cinematic legend to this natural heritage site.

Outdoor Activities – A Playground for Adventurers
The terrain of the sinkholes and ground fissures provides an excellent venue for outdoor sports. International outdoor adventure competitions have been held here, and ordinary visitors can enjoy the thrill of hiking along safe plank roads—from open viewpoints to enclosed gorges, from forest paths to steep steps, every step offers new discoveries.

Photography Tips:
The best panoramic spot is the viewing platform near the exit of the Three Natural Bridges, where you can capture the reflection of Qinglong Bridge.
Tianfu Official Post is best photographed from above, looking down, to capture its entirety; morning light is recommended.
The powerful cascades within the gorge are perfect for slow shutter speed shots to create a silky effect.
Light, plain-colored clothing is more suitable for this ethereal landscape.
Drone flights are subject to scenic area regulations.

Shopping on Nanjing Road in Shanghai was just amazing! It's truly the "First Commercial Street of China", where tradition and modernity blend perfectly. You can find awesome souvenirs and experience the trendy vibes in cool stores. The neon lights at night are just spectacular, shining bright like Times Square in New York. The food here is incredible too. I had a feast for my taste buds. Shanghai, I'll definitely be back!

Our 2-day Zhangjiajie tour was beyond spectacular! As someone who’s visited Beijing and Shanghai for work, this trip revealed China’s wild, magical heart. Day 1 in Zhangjiajie National Forest Park felt like stepping onto Pandora—I’m a huge Avatar fan, and Yuanjiajie’s floating peaks left me breathless. The misty pillars and lush valleys like pure movie magic! Then came Fenghuang Ancient Town, we eat dinner beside the thundering waterfall. It seems Unreal! The night views of stilt houses glowing over the river were straight from a fairy tale. For fellow Avatar lovers and adventure seekers: Don’t miss this bucket-list experience! 10/10 would return.
