Origin: From "Senwei Field" to "Tianfu First Street"

Furong Ancient Town Furong Ancient Town

Road name tracing - the origin of "Chunxi"
The name "Chunxi" comes from Laozi's "Tao Te Ching": "The crowd is bustling, like enjoying a prison, like climbing a spring platform." It symbolizes the scene of prosperous commerce, bustling people, and peaceful times. In 1924, the warlord Yang Sen, who was then the governor of Sichuan, ordered the demolition of the old yamen and the construction of a road from Dongdajie to Quanyechang in order to implement the "New Policy", which was named "Senwei Road". Later, Jiang Ziyu, a scholar studying in France, renamed it the more elegant "Chunxi Road", which is still in use today and embodies the beautiful vision of this bustling city.

Development Path - From Business Sprout to Fashion Core
The modern story of Chunxi Road is a condensed history of Chengdu's urban commercial development.
Commercial Sprout (1924-1949): After the road was built, stores such as department stores, banks, gold and silver jewelry, watches and glasses settled in one after another, and old brands such as Hu Kaiwen and Fengxianglou gathered, quickly becoming the commercial center of Chengdu.
The planned economy era (1950-1970s): Despite changes, Chengdu's first department store, Xinhua Bookstore, and other landmarks remain urban landmarks, carrying the collective memory of several generations.
Reform and Revitalization (1980-1990): With the release of market economy vitality, foreign department stores such as Pacific and Parkson entered, and Chunxi Road regained its bustling scene, becoming a trendsetter for fashion.
Century Butterfly Transformation (2001 present): In 2001, Chunxi Road underwent a large-scale renovation and a pedestrian street was built. In 2014, adjacent Chengdu Yuanyang Taikoo Li and Chengdu IFS successively opened, with the concepts of "fast and slow" and "sky garden", perfectly integrating international top fashion, open block culture with historical relics (Daci Temple), promoting the upgrading of Chunxi Road commercial district and becoming a globally influential commercial and cultural landmark.

Furong Ancient Town Furong Ancient Town

The charm of Chunxi Road lies in its seamless integration of cutting-edge urban aesthetics with the most authentic urban life, staging a dialogue between tradition and the future in every inch.
Urban Landscape - A Visual Feast of Architecture and Street View
Chunxi Road itself is a huge open urban landscape cluster, with every step being a scenery.
IFS International Financial Center: The Technology and Fun of Climbing Pandas
As the most eye-catching visual focal point of the block, the giant panda sculpture "I Am Here" on the rooftop of Chengdu IFS has become a symbol of the city. This giant panda, designed by artist Lawrence Argent, is striving to climb skyscrapers. Its cute and powerful appearance perfectly embodies the urban spirit of Chengdu, where leisure and progress coexist. The square downstairs is its classic check-in angle, while climbing up to the open-air garden on the seventh floor, you can take a photo with the panda in front and overlook the bustling street scene.
Far Eastern Taikoo Li: A Fashion Show Under Classical Roofs
Adopting a "low-density, open block" design, innovatively combining the Western Sichuan style blue tiled roof, grille, and glass curtain wall. Amidst the streets and alleys, international luxury flagship stores, trendy brands, design and lifestyle concept stores coexist harmoniously with the 1600 year old Daci Temple. This is not only a shopping paradise, but also an open-air architectural museum and a street photography holy land, where the collision of tradition and modernity is everywhere.
Chunxi Road Pedestrian Street: The Radiance of the Century old Golden Street
The northern section is centered around the bronze statue of Sun Yat sen, surrounded by century old brands and modern department stores; The southern section is more youthful and energetic. At night, the lights are on, neon lights are flashing, and the crowd is flowing like a thread, which can best feel the grand scene of "crowds bustling". The weight of history and the pulse of the times are clearly palpable here.

Humanistic Scene - The City Soul Flowing in the Streets and Alleys
The attraction here far exceeds material consumption, and lies more in the vivid and perceptible humanistic atmosphere and lifestyle.
Daci Temple: A Tranquil Land in the Red Dust
Located in the center of Taikoo Li, it is known as the "urban Zen forest of Chengdu". Outside the door is the hustle and bustle of international fashion, while inside is the tranquility of ancient temples with morning bells and evening drums. This strong contrast and inclusiveness are excellent manifestations of Chengdu's urban character. The tea house inside the temple is the top place to experience the slow life of Chengdu's "tea house".
Old streets, alleys, and time-honored brands: memories on the tip of the tongue
There are many old food streets and alleys hidden around Chunxi Road, such as Huaxing Street and Longwang Temple Main Street. Here you can find authentic Sichuan time-honored brands such as Long Wonton Head Office, Lai Tangyuan, Fuqi Feipian (Sliced Beef and Ox Tongue in Chilli Sauce), and taste not only delicious food, but also flavor stories that have been passed down for centuries.
Street Culture and Trendy Ecology
This is the forefront of observing fashion trends in Chengdu. Street photography experts with diverse styles, street art performances, pop-up stores, and art exhibitions can be seen everywhere. The Fangsuo Bookstore and MUJI World Flagship Store in Taikoo Li have integrated reading and aesthetic life into consumer scenarios, creating a three-dimensional cultural experience space.

Photography tips:
The best city landmark parking spot is to take a top-down photo of the "wall climbing panda" downstairs from IFS, or a head up photo of the seventh floor terrace.
The best architectural and cultural location is in the Taikoo Li neighborhood, using a wide-angle lens to capture the same frame of modern architecture and the eaves of ancient temples.
The best street photography camera is located in the alleys of Taikoo Li, with a well-designed building facade as the background.
The best night scene camera is located on the Chunxi Road overpass, capturing a dynamic scene of traffic, pedestrian flow, and neon lights interweaving.

Five Must Do Things to Unlock a Complete Journey on Chunxi Road
Take a photo with IFS Climbing Panda
This is the sense of ceremony upon arriving at Chunxi Road. Check in with the panda's buttocks downstairs, then take the elevator to the seventh floor sky garden, and take a creative photo with the panda struggling upwards in front, which can be regarded as a standard for travel in Chengdu.
Go to a fashion street shoot in Taikoo Li
Key point: This is one of the top street photography sanctuaries in China! Wearing your most stylish clothes, confidently walking on the bluestone road of Taikoo Li, feeling the focus of the camera and gaze. Even if not photographed, observing the outfits of various trendsetters is also a kind of enjoyment.
Searching for authentic time-honored snacks
Returning to the hustle and bustle of the market from high-end restaurants. In the old streets and alleys around Chunxi Road, find a time-honored shop, order a bowl of Long Wonton, Lai Tangyuan or Zhong Dumplings, and feel the century old delicious heritage of Chengdu with the tip of your tongue.
Brew a pot of tea from Da Ci Temple's covered bowl
At the center of the fashion vortex in Taikoo Li, hide in the tea garden of Daci Temple. Order a cup of tea, sit on a bamboo chair, watch the sunlight shining through the ancient trees, and hear the faint urban noise and nearby Buddhist and bird songs in your ears, experiencing Chengdu's unique philosophy of "finding peace amidst chaos".
Strolling through a night time trendy store that never closes
The night on Chunxi Road is more dazzling than the day. Many trendy boutiques, brand flagship stores, and bars operate until late at night. Strolling and shopping in the dazzling night view, or finding a bar with a terrace for a drink, experience the vibrant nightlife of Chengdu.

Travel Guide: Transportation, Accommodation, and Seasons

Furong Ancient Town

How to reach: Seamless Connection Guide
Chunxi Road is located in the absolute center of Chengdu, with a well connected transportation network. It is strongly recommended to use public transportation.
Taking public transportation (most recommended):
Subway: Chengdu Metro Line 2 and Line 3 have direct exits at the "Chunxi Road" station; You can transfer to Line 2 at Tianfu Square Station on Metro Line 1, or walk for about 10 minutes to get there.
Bus: Dozens of bus routes can reach stations such as "Chunxi Road South Exit", "Chunxi Road North Exit", "Zongfu Road", covering the whole city.
Self driving/taxi: navigate directly to "Chunxi Road" or "Chengdu IFS". Parking spaces in the city center are tight and expensive, making it prone to congestion on weekends and holidays. It is not recommended to drive unless necessary.

Best Travel Time
Chunxi Road, as an urban block that combines indoor and outdoor elements, is suitable for all seasons, but the best time to experience it is during spring and autumn.
Spring and Autumn Golden Season (March May, September November): The climate is mild and pleasant, making it the most suitable for strolling in open streets and resting in outdoor tea houses, providing a comfortable feeling.
Summer Vitality Season (June August): The weather is hot, but the indoor air conditioning in major shopping malls is sufficient, making it a good choice for summer shopping. Nighttime activities are abundant.
Winter Warm Season (December February): The weather is wet and cold, but before and after Christmas, New Year's Day, and Spring Festival, the festive decoration atmosphere in the neighborhood is strong. The shopping mall is warm like spring and there are often large-scale promotional activities.

Accommodation Options
Within the Chunxi Road/Taikoo Li commercial district (preferred for ultimate convenience):
High end hotels, such as Chengdu Niigaro Hotel and Boshe Hotel, boast core landscapes and are within walking distance of all attractions, providing top-notch services.
Designer homestay/boutique hotel: Hidden in old buildings or apartments around the business district, with a unique style that allows you to experience a different atmosphere.
Along the subway lines around the business district (cost-effective option):
Tianfu Square and Yanshikou area hotels: only one subway or walking distance from Chunxi Road, with relatively affordable prices and a variety of choices.
Hotels along other urban subway lines: As long as they are close to subway lines 1, 2, and 3, it is very convenient to get to Chunxi Road, which is suitable for tourists who have control over their accommodation budget.

Shopping on Nanjing Road in Shanghai was just amazing! It's truly the "First Commercial Street of China", where tradition and modernity blend perfectly. You can find awesome souvenirs and experience the trendy vibes in cool stores. The neon lights at night are just spectacular, shining bright like Times Square in New York. The food here is incredible too. I had a feast for my taste buds. Shanghai, I'll definitely be back!

Our 2-day Zhangjiajie tour was beyond spectacular! As someone who’s visited Beijing and Shanghai for work, this trip revealed China’s wild, magical heart. Day 1 in Zhangjiajie National Forest Park felt like stepping onto Pandora—I’m a huge Avatar fan, and Yuanjiajie’s floating peaks left me breathless. The misty pillars and lush valleys like pure movie magic! Then came Fenghuang Ancient Town, we eat dinner beside the thundering waterfall. It seems Unreal! The night views of stilt houses glowing over the river were straight from a fairy tale. For fellow Avatar lovers and adventure seekers: Don’t miss this bucket-list experience! 10/10 would return.
